She will listen to your requirements and discuss with you the most appropriate way to proceed. What you can expect on arrival
When you first attend our practice you will be made to feel welcome and at ease by our experienced staff. We have comfortable surroundings, unique decor, magazines and music. We will try not to keep you waiting though sometimes this is unavoidable but we will let you know if we are running behind and endeavour to keep this to a minimum. Sue will settle you into our reception and ask you to fill in a medical questionnaire for our records. Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow us to greet you properly and give you time to fill in the medical questionnaire. We will then invite you into meet your dentist and surgery assistant.
What you can expect of your first consultation
Your dentist, along with their nurse will welcome you to their room and begin introductions, and check through your medical history. A comprehensive examination of not just your teeth but all of your oral structures will be carried out.
Small X-rays are usually indicated to allow us to discover what is inside of your teeth and also to look between them. These are done digitally which gives us instant large images which are great for us to see what we need to but also allows us to easily show you the anatomy of your teeth. Often as a one off as a new patient we require a scan image that gives a great overview of all your teeth including their roots and your jaw bones this image is very valuable in the first instance but also at future appointments. Our dentists use magnification and fibre optic illumination to examine you in the best possible way.
The purpose of this first visit is for your dentist to meet you and to learn your mouth and teeth. The next thing is for your dentist to show you around your own mouth! We feel it is vitally important that in order to get the best results for you we need you to fully understand what is going on in your own mouth. Achieving great outcomes is a team effort between your professionals, your dentist, nurse, hygienist and receptionist but equally important on this team is you. We can’t get the best for you without you on board!
All issues in your mouth will be fully explained and your questions answered. Any treatment required will be outlined and fully costed for you. A treatment plan will be drawn up and appropriate appointments made by Sue.
Please ask us to go over again any areas where you need more clarification.
